As part of World Breastfeeding Week 2024, which took place from August 1st to 7th, the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department of HPA Gambelas designed a comprehensive training course on breastfeeding in the first days of a baby's life. HPA Gambelas Maternity has two internationally certified lactation consultants responsible for keeping the entire team updated and trained to provide the appropriate support to new mothers who choose to breastfeed their babies.
This training event, held on August 3rd, was aimed at all pregnant women, with the objective of equipping them with the necessary knowledge to ensure successful breastfeeding. This was only the first edition of a successful event, and we promise to return with future editions.
The 2024 WABA International Campaign aims to raise awareness within the community about the importance of reliable information and support for promoting breastfeeding accessible to all vulnerable groups. In this regard, the course had a charitable component, with the proceeds going to the APPC (Portuguese Association of Cerebral Palsy) Life Support Centre, a project aimed at supporting pregnant and postpartum women in situations of risk.
