HIV and AIDS: Inform, Protect, and Prevent
On World AIDS Day, the HPA Health Group reinforces the importance of being informed and taking action in the prevention of HIV/AIDS. Despite medical advancements, stigma and misinformation remain challenges in the fight against this disease. To help increase awareness, we answer the most frequently asked questions:
How is HIV transmitted?
HIV is transmitted through blood, for example, through sharing syringes, as well as through semen or vaginal fluids, typically during unprotected sex, and from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding.
What are the myths about HIV?
There is no risk of transmission in social interactions, such as hugging, sharing utensils, or using public bathrooms and swimming pools. Insect bites also do not transmit the virus.
Who should get an HIV test?
All sexually active individuals should consider getting tested, especially if they have engaged in high-risk practices, such as unprotected sex, multiple partners, or a history of sexually transmitted infections.
Is there a cure for HIV?
Although there is still no cure, current treatments are highly effective. Antiretroviral therapy allows for viral control, prevents complications, and enables individuals to live long and healthy lives.
How can HIV infection be prevented?
Using condoms, not sharing syringes, opting for pre-exposure prophylaxis, and getting early diagnosis are essential preventive measures.
At HPA, we believe that information saves lives. Stay informed, protect yourself, and prevent the spread. Health promotion is about raising awareness!
