The City of Vila Real de Santo Antonio celebrates the day of the city of the 13th of May and also on this date is the official opening of the International Medical Center. This is a joint project between the Hospital Particular do Algarve and the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo Antonio. This Medical Center will also integrate Cuban health professionals.
This Center has been a National and International reference for training of professional athletes. The Center is certified by the Olympic Preparation Center as well as by the International Athletics Federation. This sports complex has an area of more than 200 square meters. It now comprises additional diagnostic and intervention equipment, adding to ins projection and international recognition as a Center of excellence in general health care as well as a sports rehabilitation Center.
The development of this Project in the International Medical Center of Vila Real de Santo Antonio, will be done in stages. With immediate effect, there will be a doctor on permanent duty supported by supplementary diagnostic tests (X-Ray, Clinical Analysis, Ultrasound, Cardiac tests) and a Permanent Observation Room, including Dentistry and Dental X-ray. The Center also works on a direct billing basis with most Health Insurance Companies both national and international. In a later stage the Center will also have an Operating Theatre with a Recovery Room.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as Sports Medicine will be an important area of the Center comprising a multidisciplinary team of doctors and therapists both Cubans and Portuguese, with extensive national and international experience, able to provide assessment strategies as well as innovative and effective treatment.
