Gynecology and Obstetrics meeting: Endometriosis

On April 20, 2024, the HPA Gambelas Gynecology and Obstetrics team gathered with the community for another Gynecology and Obstetrics Meeting, this time focusing on the topic of Endometriosis. Alongside the HPA Gambelas resident team, we were honoured to have physiotherapist Tânia Camilo, a specialist in pelvic floor physiotherapy, as a guest speaker.
The room was filled with individuals interested in the subject, many of whom were personally affected by this condition. They actively participated in the meeting, engaging with various experts, asking questions, and sharing their own experiences.

During the session, we discussed the significant impact of endometriosis on the daily lives of affected women. Chronic pain, a prevalent symptom, can be highly debilitating, leading to a decreased quality of life and significant work incapacity. Infertility issues, affecting approximately 4 in 10 women, also pose a major challenge, resulting in a high demand for assisted reproductive technologies and substantial emotional and financial investments. Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, whether medical or surgical, are crucial to alleviate
symptoms and address any anatomical changes that may contribute to infertility. 
Recognizing the importance of timely intervention, HPA Gambelas established the Endometriosis Diagnosis and Treatment Centre. This centre collaborates with various essential departments, including Infertility Consultation, Imaging, Gastroenterology, Urology, General Surgery, Clinical Psychology, and Nutrition, to provide comprehensive care and support for individuals with endometriosis.
