Mentoplasty
This is a surgery preferably performed under sedoanalgesia / general anaesthesia, and the approach is via an oral route or a small submental incision.
The harmonisation of the face can be achieved by modifying the aspect and profile of the mentonian region, through a surgical technique called mentoplasty, which can consist of the retraction of the bony prominence of the chin (in the case of macrogenia), or in its advancement by the inclusion usually of a silicone prosthesis (in the case of microgenia).
More complex situations, which involve disharmony of the dental articulation and the relationship between the middle and lower thirds of the face, may justify the use of orthognathic surgery, with mobilisation of the mandible-maxillary skeleton.
Mentoplastia
É uma cirurgia preferencialmente realizada sob sedoanalgesia/anestesia geral, sendo a abordagem por via endo bucal ou por uma pequena incisão submentoniana.
A harmonização da face pode ser conseguida pela modificação do aspeto e perfil da região mentoniana, através de uma técnica cirúrgica denominada mentoplastia, que pode consistir no recuo da proeminência óssea do mento (no caso da macrogenia), ou no seu avanço pela inclusão habitualmente de uma prótese de silicone (no caso da microgenia).
Situações mais complexas, que envolvem desarmonia do articulado dentário e da relação dos terços médio e inferior da face podem justificar o recurso a cirurgia ortognática, com mobilização do esqueleto mandibulo-maxilar.
