Immunoallergology
Due to the growing number of allergic reactions which affect a growing number of people nowadays, the Hospital Particular do Algarve has the Specialty of Allergology.
When should one see a Immunoallergologist?
Patients of all age groups from children to adults, who complain of:
- Asthma (coughing, wheezing, runny nose, shortness of breath);
- Rhinitis (itchy nose, sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose);
- Conjunctivitis (itchy, watery and red eyes);
- Eczema;
- Food Allergy (eg. Milk, nuts, shellfish, etc.);
- Allergies to medications;
- Occupational Allergy (including latex allergy);
- Sinusitis.
In this consultation in addition to a intensive questionnaire on the patient’s medical history, skin tests can be performed on any age group with suspected allergens and reading results are available almost immediately, after 15-20 minutes and. when it is not possible to perform skin tests or their outcome is uncertain, blood tests can also detect allergies.
