Grupo HPA Saúde promoted the AI4ORTHO – AI Applied to Orthopaedic Clinical Practice course at HPA Gambelas, an educational initiative aimed at orthopaedic surgeons and residents, which proved to be a success both in terms of attendance and scientific quality.
The event attracted healthcare professionals interested in understanding how Artificial Intelligence is transforming orthopaedic clinical practice, from diagnostic support and decision-making to surgical planning and the personalisation of patient care.
The course opened with an introduction to the theme of Artificial Intelligence, followed by an overview of its conceptual foundations, presented by Professor Manuel Guimarães. Later, Professor David Belo explored the challenges of applying AI in healthcare, with a particular focus on responsibility and ethical considerations.
Professor Luís Caldas de Oliveira addressed language models and text generation applied to medical practice, followed by Professor Tiago Marques, who presented applications of digital twins and augmented reality. Reflection on the potential and challenges of implementing AI in Orthopaedics was led by Dr Acácio Ramos and Dr André Santos de Barros, concluding with an open discussion and Q&A session.
