Grupo HPA Saúde has carried out, for the first time in the Algarve, a corneal Crosslinking treatment, marking an important milestone for the Ophthalmology Department at the HPA Institute and for eye care in the region. The procedure was performed by Dr Pedro M. Baptista, whose dedication made it possible to introduce this innovative technique to the Algarve for the very first time.
Crosslinking is a treatment designed to stabilise the progression of degenerative corneal diseases, which mainly affect young patients and, in more severe cases, can lead to serious complications, including significant loss of vision. The implementation of this treatment in the Algarve represents a significant step forward in terms of proximity, accessibility, and continuity of specialised ophthalmological care.
This development reinforces Grupo HPA Saúde’s commitment to offering differentiated and technologically advanced clinical solutions, aligned with the best national and international practices. The Ophthalmology Department at the HPA Institute adopts a multidisciplinary approach, which allows for a more effective and personalised response to patients’ needs, positioning itself as the most advanced and specialised eye care centre in the region.
Grupo HPA Saúde congratulates the entire team involved, especially Dr Pedro Baptista, for the clinical initiative and spirit of collaboration that continue to enhance the quality of care provided.
