On October 19, the Passeio das Dunas trail, between Quarteira and Vilamoura, hosted a vibrant and heart-warming morning with the 25th edition of the Mamamaratona, organised by the Associação Oncológica do Algarve (AOA). As part of the Pink October movement, the event brought together 3,707 participants across both the walking and running events.
The Grupo HPA Saúde once again joined this charitable initiative, reinforcing its commitment to breast cancer prevention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
HPA’s presence was further highlighted by a live broadcast of a special episode of the OncoHPA Podcast, in collaboration with Rádio Lagoa. The session was hosted by Nurse Raquel Salgado, Head Nurse of the HPA Gambelas Day Hospital, and Nurse Marta Rodrigues, Head Nurse of the HPA Alvor Day Hospital
The episode featured the testimonies of two former patients and contributions from physiotherapists Jacqueline Tavares and Inês de Sousa, who shared experiences and practical insights on diagnosis, treatment, and patient support. The discussion also included Dr Maria de Lurdes Pereira, President of the Algarve Oncology Association, who emphasised the importance of joint work between healthcare institutions and the community.
The Mamamaratona is an inclusive event that shines a light on a cause of great importance. Being present was a way to reinforce the significance of caring, informing, and preventing.
Throughout the morning, the atmosphere was filled with solidarity and good spirits, bringing together physical activity, awareness, and community connection.
For Grupo HPA Saúde, supporting the Mamamaratona goes beyond participation — it means actively contributing to a more informed and healthier community, supporting causes that promote prevention, hope, and quality of life.
