Nutritionist’s Day

Do nutritionists never eat sweets?
MYTH: Although they understand the nutritional value of foods, nutritionists also enjoy, like anyone else, a sweet treat or a more indulgent option. The difference is that, thanks to their knowledge, they can manage these choices in a balanced and conscious way, maintaining a healthy lifestyle without giving up the pleasure of eating.

Is an appointment with a nutritionist only for people who want to lose weight?

MYTH: Beyond obesity, there are many other conditions and stages of life where nutritional follow-up is beneficial and part of treatment: pregnancy, childhood, older age, oncology, gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, and even for enhancing athletic performance. In other words, seeing a nutritionist isn’t just about losing weight.

Does the nutritionist forbid sweets and carbohydrates and force me to eat vegetables?

MYTH: Nutritionists do not work with generalised restrictions or prohibitions. They assess each person individually and, according to their needs and goals, integrate different foods into the meal plan. Their role is to guide, educate, and adapt the diet to each patient’s reality — not to exclude food groups without clinical justification.

I don’t go to a nutritionist because healthy eating is more expensive.

MYTH: A balanced diet does not require costly shopping. Often, it involves reorganising choices, making better use of ingredients, and adjusting quantities. The aim is to make healthy eating accessible, practical, and adapted to the budget, prioritising natural and seasonal foods.

If I’m healthy, I don’t need to see a nutritionist.
MYTH: A nutritionist does not intervene only when there is illness. Their work includes prevention, the promotion of healthy eating habits, and guidance throughout all stages of life. Seeing a nutritionist can help maintain health, prevent future problems, and optimise overall well-being, even in the absence of any medical condition.
