The Hospital Particular do Algarve is equipped with up to date equipment and the latest technology in Radiology equipment with a fully qualified and experienced technical team, operating in a hospital environment. This Department , offers a wide range of exams both simple to specialized in radiology, as well as in computed tomography, general and special ultrasound and also in intervention radiology.
The use of state-of-the-art technology can reduce the risk of discovering cancer in an advanced stage or even in avoiding this disease.
A Virtual Colonoscopy (CT colonography) can detect small polyps in the colon, which in many cases may originate tumours, has a 100% efficacy in 1cm size polyps.
Using a lower radiation technique, it is possible to detect early pulmonary nodules in high risk patients, making it possible to monitor lesions when a clear diagnosis does not exist.
It is possible to study arteries by CT in the different parts of the body (head, neck, thorax, abdomen and limbs. This is a non-invasive, fast and easy way of avoiding more aggressive diagnostic procedures with greater complications.
Special mention should be made of the Cardiac Angio-CT, which has meant a remarkable advance in the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, replacing diagnostic catheterisms.
