Academic Training

Degree in Medicine from the College of Medicine of the University of Coimbra.

She completed the General and Specialty Internships in Psychiatry and Mental Health at the Hospitals of the University of Coimbra.

She holds a Post Graduate Degree in Cognitive-Behavioural Psychotherapy, Forensic Psychiatry, and Clinical Investigation from the Medical Harvard School.

She graduated in Clinical Hypnosis from the Portuguese Society of Hypnosis and Motivation.

Professional Activity

She was part of the Gerontopsychiatry, Eating Disorders, Psychosomatics, and Linking Psychiatry (to other medical specialties) teams at Centro Hospitalar and Universitário de Coimbra. In this institution she developed and coordinated the Psychiatric Consultations Linking to the Surgical Treatment of Obesity and Liver Transplantation Units.

She was a teacher in Psychopharmacology Training and Postgraduate Degrees and Masters in Geriatrics and Social Gerontology at the University and Hospital Center of Coimbra and at the School of Education of Coimbra.

She was Assistant Professor of the Course Principles and Practice of Clinical Research, Harvard Medical School (2012).

She collaborates as a guest assistant in teaching at Valencia de Psychiatry of the Medicine Course at the University of Algarve.

She has presented more than 40 communications on her scientific area, namely at international events, and has published more than 30 texts in scientific journals with national and international peer review, most of them as first author.

She has developed and participates in clinical research projects in the field of psychiatry and obesity.

General Psychiatry Consultation

Her clinical activity follows an integrative view that contemplates individual vulnerability factors (predisposing), precipitating factors of the disease, and maintenance/perpetuating variables. Such a comprehensive assessment of psychopathology and psychological suffering necessarily crosses the psychological and emotional, neurobiological/organic, genetic, and environmental dimensions. It is on this model that it is dedicated to the prevention, care, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of the various presentations of psychiatric illness, whether in adults or in special groups (youth, elderly, pregnant, or postpartum women). Among others, it deals with the following illnesses: Depression, Bipolar Illness, Schizophrenia, Anxiety/Panic/Phobias, Eating Behaviour Disorders (Anorexia/Bulimia), Drug Addictions, Mental State Assessment, Dementias and Sleep Disorders.
