Why the neck?
The neck is a very exposed transition zone between the face and the neckline.
The existence of people with a careful face contrasting with an aged neck is indicative of how the neck is not always “remembered”. Our intervention in the non-surgical area increasingly contemplates the joint rejuvenation of the face, neck and neckline, in order to revitalize all the structures in an integral way, always seeking harmony.
How does neck aging manifest?
The neck has no supporting bone structures, the muscle layer is made up of a single muscle (which is strong on top and pulls the skin down) and the fat layer is thin and located above the chin. In addition, the skin is ‘thin’, has little collagen and elastin and almost no sweat glands or hair follicles, which makes it difficult to regenerate.
The main problem with the neck is sagging, that is, the loss of definition of the contour of the face that arises with the fall of the tissues. Additionally, there may also be skin surface problems such as wrinkles and color changes.
What are the best minimally invasive techniques?
In sagging non-surgical treatments are, for us, indicated in mild to moderate situations. Threads are the technique we most use because they also make it possible to improve the whole oval of the face. If we want to enhance the result of the wires or if the situation is less severe, we can apply plasma growth factors or do some radiofrequency or carboxytherapy sessions. Improvement of the skin tone obtained with such techniques (so-called tightening) is progressive as the body needs time to elaborate the new supporting elements.
Whether there are wrinkles or pigmentation changes vitamins, peellings or laser are techniques to consider. Botulinum toxin is an option when the muscles are very active and give rise to vertical ‘bands’ in the center of the neck.
The art of treating the neck is the ability to adapt the techniques to the specificities and expectations of each patient. All the techniques described above are safe and can be done at any daily break, requiring little or no recovery days.
The cervicofacial facelift is used when there is moderate to severe sagging and too much fat in the double chin.
